<p>A south-facing window gives it the most light in a Canadian home, and a west-facing window is the next best. In a dim spot it loses its pink colour, so check yours with our <a href="https://mygraenscape.com/blogs/news/plant-light-requirements">guide to plant light needs</a>.</p>

<p>Give it as much bright light as you can. A new plant can sunburn, leaving beige or brown patches that do not fade, so start it a little back from a hot south window and move it closer over a couple of weeks. In summer it can go out on a sunny balcony, coming back inside before fall nights drop below 10°C (50°F).</p>

<p>Water until it drains from the bottom, then wait until the soil is completely dry. From November to March, when the furnace is running, water only enough to keep the leaves from shrivelling, and never leave it sitting in water.</p>

<p>Succulents tolerate low humidity, so the dry air from forced-air heating in an Ontario or Quebec winter suits it without a humidifier.</p>

<p>The ASPCA lists aloe as toxic to cats and dogs, so keep this aloe hybrid on a high shelf or in a room your pets can't get into.</p>

<p>As it grows, small offsets form around the base of the plant. In spring, gently separate them and give each its own small pot of succulent mix, or divide the clump if it starts tipping over its pot.
